RSI is an acronym for repetitive strain injury, a term used for injuries caused by repetitive use of a body part. It is associated with recurrent damage and reactive inflammation of structures subject to repetitive use which commonly include tendons and tendon sheaths, but can involve ligaments, bursae, muscles and other non-bony structures.
Most chronic soft-tissue injury will settle with acupuncture, but modification of activity and appropriate exercise are important components of management of the condition.
A problem loosely termed as RSI is cervicobrachial pain associated with keyboarding. While this condition often entails repetitive work, many features of the disorder resemble those of fibrositis. The condition is often more resistant to treatment than repetitive strain injury involving specific structures. It can be managed in the same way as with fibrositis
