HAEMORRHOIDS

Haemorrhoids are venous dilatations in the back (anal) passage. They may be internal and prolapse only when the bowels are opened, or they may remain

prolapsed outside the rectum. Haemorrhoids may cause anal irritation, pain or bleeding. Removal of haemorrhoids by surgical excision or by tying (ligation) is commonly done.

People with mild to moderate haemorrhoids may elect to be treated with acupuncture as the response to this mode of management is good. This will not only provide relief of pain but will often cause regression of haemorrhoids and produce a reduction in bleeding and irritation. Recurrence may occur, although this can be minimised by preventing constipation.
