| TIME OF ONSET OF RESPONSES | |||||||||||||
Time of Onset of Responses varies with the technique used by the practitioner. Traditional needling using physical manipulation of the needle can produce a change in symptoms within minutes. Practitioners aim at evoking the sensation of “Qi”. This is characterised mainly by a feeling of general relaxation associated with altered local sensations e.g. warmth, distension or heaviness. Other local changes include numbness and pins and needles. The rapid onset of “Qi” sensation which occurs with skilful manual needle therapy also occurs with light-stimulated therapy. A response usually occurs while in the treatment room.

The rapid onset of symptom-relief is a source of surprise to most new patients who usually have difficulty believing that symptoms can be alleviated so quickly. Apart from intravenous administration of drugs, there are few areas in medicine where responses occur as rapidly. There are even fewer instances where these changes are directly associated with the healing process. |
